„She­p­herds“ zeigt, wie zen­tral Vieh­hal­tung für das gesell­schaft­li­che Leben in Leso­tho ist, einem klei­nen Staat mit­ten in Süd­afri­ka. Kühe haben hier außer­or­dent­li­che sym­bo­li­sche wie auch mate­ri­el­le Bedeu­tung. Der Film spielt in einem Gefäng­nis für Vieh­die­be. Sie erzäh­len ihr Leben und ihren Weg in die Haft. Für jede gestoh­le­ne Kuh droht ihnen ein Jahr Gefängnis.

Bio­gra­phie

Tebo­ho Edkins (*1980 in Ten­nes­see, USA) grew up in Sou­thern Afri­ca, Leso­tho and lives and works in Cape Town and Ber­lin. He stu­di­ed pho­to­gra­phy and fine art at the Michae­lis School of Fine Art, Uni­ver­si­ty of Cape Town, South Afri­ca and at Le Fres­noy Stu­dio Natio­nal des Arts Con­tem­po­rains in Tour­co­ing, France. This was fol­lo­wed by a degree in direc­ting at the Deut­sche Film und Fern­seh-aka­de­mie in Ber­lin (dffb).
